Purpose and goal
The first part of the project aims at identifying the state of the art and available test methods for up-scaling and operation of AG mills including what aspects of AG operation are addressed and what are the requirements in terms of sample size and amount. The second part is to list the methods’ dependency on ore properties and their breakage mechanism under realistic mill condition. The last part is to use the latest methods and technology e.g. XCT (X-ray computed tomography) to identify the behavior of pebbles under conditions similar to inside an AG mill.
Expected results and effects
The expected outcomes are the description and assessment of AG test methods for scale-up with specific focus on fines generation and distribution of stress and fatigue in large stones. Validating the effect of repeated shocks on the fatigue of large stones will be done using XCT.
Planned approach and implementation
The project work is organized in two main work packages, one theoretical and one experimental. The theoretical part is mainly a literature survey on state of the art and available AG test methods in Sweden and the world. The experimental part involves the sampling of large stones at the partner´s premises and running indicative tests as well as analyzing the progression of micro-cracks into rock failure using XCT.
