Mining lunch – Biodiversity in Mining, Örebro

17 May 2024

Welcome to a mining lunch on the theme “Biodiversity in Mining” with Sara Carlsén from Boliden, among others. The seminar will be held in English. You can participate both on site, in ORU Innovation Arena at Örebro University, or digitally via Zoom.

Preliminary program:

Biodiversity in the mining industry, with Sara Carlsén, Boliden.
Sara Carlsén is biodiversity coordinator at Boliden and project manager for Mining with Nature. She holds an Msc in land reclamation and restoration and has over 8 years experience with biodiversity in the extractive industries since 2015.

  • Towards Nature Positive. Loss of biodiversity and nature is a critical global challenge, vital to planetary health and our economy. In this presentation we will have an outlook on the trends, global goals and frameworks that are emerging for this fast-moving field.
  • Mining with Nature. Svemin published their roadmap for biodiversity in 2020, with a common goal to increase biodiversity by 2030. In this follow-up project, funded by Swedish Mining Innovation, we develop tools, guidelines and processes to ensure all member companies reach this ambitious goal.
  • The mining lunch will also offer presentations of other SMI-funded projects in related fields, such as geomorphic design and the Waste2Place-project, with Matt Baida, landscape architect and CEO of VAST Landscape Architecture. The Waste2Place project aims to create long-term stable landforms to help to deliver mining-disturbed land back to nature and people.
