Students helps solve real-life cases on the theme: Mining Innovation

LTU Business Summer program in collaboration with Swedish Mining Innovation.

For 9 weeks, 10 students worked in teams as full-time business developers. Based on their profile, LTU Business matched the students to different assignments. The task each team had was to evaluate a business case that came from university research or SMEs, with a wide variety of themes and societal challenges represented. Two of the cases, and thereby four students, worked on the theme: Mining Innovation.

Last week was the final presentation and result. Erik Hagenrud, Senior Business Developer for LTU Business and Swedish Mining Innovation, was one of those who attended the final presentation and he was very impressed.

“Great presentations, interesting projects and the students handled the questions in a professional way. It feels like we have a bright future to look forward to with students as committed as these. The LTU Business summer program is an effective way to increase both interest and awareness of the mining industry for potential future employees”.

– It has been great fun to get into a case in a completely new industry, talking to people I would never have talked to otherwise. Getting into the subject has been a challenge, but also a fun part of the work, says Lova Hedlund, Luleå Tekniska Universitetet, who worked on a mining innovation case that was about autonomous inspections.

Sree Karthik from SINReM, Uppsala Universitet, worked on the other mining innovation case.

– The best part about being in the LTU Business Summer program was that we got the opportunity to understand how businesses work and how market validation is done. Our case study is very similar to the field we are in right now, and it helped us to look at it from a business perspective. Among other things, we learned how to approach a company and we also developed good communication and presentation skills,” says Sree.

Thank you to the idea owners that contributed with real-life cases, the Project Manager Karoline Pettersson and the coaches David Kero, Gunilla Enquist, Johanna Erström, Johan Bergström and Kent Mrozek from LTU Business who guided the students along the way. Finally, we want to thank the students Abhishek Singh, Lova Hedlund, Daniela Andrea Romero and Sree Sai Karthik Gangumalla, who gave everything during this summer and we hope that an interest and curiosity for the mining sector has been awakened. Good luck in the future!
