Purpose and goal
The aim was to clarify how new miniaturised technology for sensors and chemical analysis readout in or at the borehole can provide faster feedback both to the central expert centres and directly to the driller. The goal was to ensure that what Swedish industry invests in will distinguish itself from existing research and development in the world. The goal of the feasibility study has been fulfilled and it is now the basis for a proposal for a full scale project that is planned for March 2015.
Structure and implementation
By thoroughly transferring and explaining the disciplinary know-how, and benchmarking the state-of-the-art, the pilot project has been bridging over its sectorial limits. Individual studies were presented and discussed in workshops and smaller work groups, always with guidance on the relevance for the mining industry. We note that the participation was higher than what the high expectations and that all participants have voiced their satisfaction.
Expected results
The pilot study was a focused approach in making a multidisciplinary and cross-sectorial cooperation efficient before it starts. When it was finished, its partners should have a good idea of what Swedish industry should invest in to distinguish itself and to ensure that the deep exploration technology of Sweden goes beyond the state-of-the-art. This has formed the basis for a larger project proposal within innovative deep exploration that is planned for the next call of STRIM.
